In June, Latitude Brokers coordinated the First Shipping Food Drive for Feeding Hong Kong.

Feeding Hong Kong work  with food retailers, distributors and manufacturers to rescue surplus that would otherwise be discarded and re-distribute it to the people in need. But from week to week, the volumes of food donated to Feeding Hong Kong go up and down and the types of products change – this is the nature of surplus. At the same time, the needs of their charity partners remain fairly constant. Food drives are a great way to generate additional donations for Feeding Hong Kong and ensure a steady supply of basic food items. Food drives also allow them to promote and encourage the most nutritious food choices possible, at the same time as raising awareness of hunger issues in our community.

The star items of the month were canned fish, so very suited for the Hong Kong Maritime Community !

We received a large support from the industry, with Asia Maritime Pacific, Valles Steamship, West of England P&I Club, Steamship Mutual, XL Catlin, RPC, Ince and Co and Stephenson Harwood, all joining in the effort !

47 kg of food were collected at their offices, and logistics for collection and delivery of the donations were entirely sponsored by the donors as well. This is very important as it allows Feeding Hong Kong to plan and optimize the employment of their own vans for collection from their food partners.

This is equivalent to 112 meals donated to Feeding Hong Kong: the food will be redistributed free of charge to their partner charities, all of whom are registered non-profit organisations working with underprivileged individuals in Hong Kong.
Thank you to all the companies and professionals who joined Latitude Brokers on the First Shipping Food Drive ! We look forward to the next one !
