Steamship Mutual opens the 2026 renewal season with 8% General Increase
The Club highlighted a number of difficulties in 2025 as they head into the 2026 policy year. There has been a second successive year of high pool claim numbers, in addition to deterioration on the prior year’s pool claims, in quantum as well as in number. The Club have also seen their retained claims developing worse than budget. As such the Club have decided that there will be an 8% General Increase applied on premium for 2026 renewals for all classes of business.
In addition, all deductibles will now be applied to associated fees, costs and expenses, which is broadly in line with the majority of Clubs. On the FD&D side the minimum deductible will be increased to USD10,000, with the maximum increased to USD 75,000 – these are up from last year’s minimum of USD 7,500 and maximum of USD 50,000.
The Club have decided that they are not in a position to make a capital distribution this year.
As usual, premium rating will be corrected individually in conjunction with the above guidelines where necessary, and the costs of the IG reinsurance programme will be passed on to Members.
Release calls:
2025-26: 15%
2024-25: 10%
2023-24: 0%
